Synopsis

“I learned from my father something that assassins don’t know how to do: to put the truth in words so that it last longer than their lie.” Hector Abad Faciolince In 2006, Hector Abad Faciolince published “Oblivion: A Memoir”, a heartrending story about the life and death of his father Hector Abad Gomez, Colombian public health pioneer and a human right advocate that was murdered in cold blood by a hired assassin in Medellin streets in 1987. The documentary reconstructs the story of the book using contemporary footage and a valuable family files. Between the personal and the historic memory, in “a battle against forgetfulness, against oblivion, Letter to a Shadow” presents a hair-raising snapshot of the political violence endured by Colombia and gives us an x-ray of the Colombian society from the intimate and critical insights of both the father Hector Abad Gómez, and his son, writer Hector Abad Faciolince.
