“Alejo, the Search for Love” is a story that although based on some true events, recreates without sticking to a biographical reality, the lifestyle of Alejo Duran, a recognized Vallenato musician and singer. It is about his affaires, his music and his work as a farm laborer; his attachment to the essence of his race and its customs and especially, his desperate desire to find love, a one and definite love. Several women and Duran’s great love have been selected in order to tell, through their stories, the big story. These women, the motive of inspiration for many of his songs, represent the passions of a man who became a legend. The story begins with Alejo, as a boy, and how, slowly the unbreakable ties of friendship and loyalty towards Jamie, his adoptive brother, were built; a bond that will mark forever the unfolding story. His first love, perhaps his only real one is Rosita, a love that becomes an obsession but seems to be impossible because other feelings always overwhelm him. His love towards Fidelina, the daughter of his boss, a well-to-do landowner, emerged in the midst of their great social class differences. A love that moves from passion, friendship and impossible differences to reconcile in their social classes. Each woman, in her own way, leaves a mark on his soul that, like an accordion, wrinkles when the one loved leaves, and spreads out with life, when another love arrives.
